I just received a nice user M2 everything seems to be working nicely. One thing the rewind button fell off and I was able to screw it back on but it just keeps spinning. Its on there, but just not tight is this normal?

Thanks for your help

Marko

On the button rewinds you need to stop the button from spinning by wedging some rubber strip under it and then tighten, as far as I am aware. you could use something like an old piece of bicyle inner tube maybe

just mean slip that little piece of rubber on the screw and then tighten?

from what I can see in pics of the button, if you cut a piece of inner tube and then cut a slit in it, you should then be able to slide this between the button and the surround and then by pressing against the rubber be able to tighten the screw without the button turning

Ok, I'm getting it. So I need to get a small sheet of rubber, cut it to size, make a slit slide the button though, and then press down on the surrounding piece and hopefully tighten...

A rubber band wrapped around under the button will hold it enough to tighten it, but I had it tightened properly next time I saw the repair chap

Ok, just tried using a rubber band, but then tried to tighten, just kept spinning. I must be doing something wrong...?

Press the button down as you tighten it, so it is griped by the band underneath.

The technician had a brass clamp thing and did it free in a few seconds, but it stayed on until i got there

Peter Grisalfi (The UK's best Leica technician at CRR Luton) fixed my button RW M2 last year. The button fell off and I couldn't get it fixed on tightly. When I rang him for advice, he told me that there is a special tool to fix the button tightly onto the spindle. Not every leica repair shop has one of these and apparently this is a common problem. It was quick, easy cheap fix; in fact Peter didn't charge me for the button repair as I had some other work done too.

I can verify topoxforddoc's post on the basis of my own experience losing the button and DAG's comments about the necessary tool prior to fixing it. needs a special tool.

The ring around my rewind button is loose. Anyone had that problem?

And, which is more annoying, the button doesn't always pop back after rewinding the film. What could cause that?

Many of the problems are due to incorrect fixing of the button on the spindle and the ring onto the body. A good Leica technician will have spare buttons. Peter Grisalfi had a spare one when mine got loose and dropped off.
