Im purchasing some strobes next week and it comes with this wireless transmitter.

So if I just attach this to the hot shoe will the strobes sync with my camera automatically? Will the camera send a signal to the transmitter whenever I click the shutter?

Thank you for reading, i know nothing about using off camera flash. I was thinking about getting a continuous light but according to what ive read on the net, strobes are a bit more complicated but better in the long run. You get more bang for your buck, you can freeze the action, you save on power.

Yes. If they are bundling these wireless triggers with the strobe, then presumably the strobe will connect just fine to the receiver unit. Hopefully they include the correct cable. The other unit mounts onto the hot shoe of your camera. Those are cheapie units, but they'll work fine for a while until they break.

You'll need a stand for the flash, if that's not already included. And a modfier of some sort like an umbrella.

Hi Koven,

If the flash you have purchased can accommodate the jack on the receiver, this should work. Theoretically it will fire every time, depending on recycle rate. You will need to manually adjust the flash, it won't transmit any TTL information. The cheap and cheerful receivers generally seem to work well enough indoors, but when taken outside and tested for any kind of range, they have let me down. This type of receiver will be fine if you are just getting into off camera flash.

It comes with a soft box and stand. The kit is relatively cheap at 250 but still more expensive then the ones on Ebay and amazon and there are a bunch of videos on youtube by people who own it so Im pretty confident. I will definitely upgrade to some better lights when I can.

Thanks for the info man! This is primarily going be for my home studio.

I recommend the Yongnou receivers/transmitters, used those when I had a Canon a few years ago. Definitely get minimum 2 of both kinds - then you can use one set for triggering the shutter and the other for the flash!

Koven, transmitters work well, and they sure make it easy to use flash. A week ago I did a job outdoors where I had to use two flashes. Just wiring up for second flash was such a hassle. If you ever think you will use two flash stations get a second receiver. I use slave units indoors, but have found that mine in the sun do not work. Anyway, some extra thoughts and good luck, this is a beginnings primer for flash:

If you are going to use alien bee lights (or any other strobes for that matter) I would recommend Paul Buff cybersync transmitter and receivers. They are very reliable, I haven't had a misfire/nonfire in the 5plus years I have had mine.

Also if you want some great off camera flash info I highly recommend you read the blog at strobist.com as well as look them up on Flickr too.

Good luck, looking forward to seeing your results.

Here is one done with digital and two bare flashes. The subjects are in the shade and the background is what I use for ambient setting, but I left the f-stop in place for the correct flash strength (Buff Cybersynch trigger):
