I have the shade and I thought it would sit nicely on the lens in LTM. I was totally wrong. I thought both the S and LTM versions share the same hood?

the leica mount 35 1.8 has a 43mm thread size , the s version a 46mm thread size.
the shade for the 3.5cm f 2.5 is the right one that fits . nikon , as far as i know , made no special specific shade for the leica type 35 1.8 .

the one i had many years ago came with the 35 2.5 nikon rf series shade .
this is the black clip on one that fits sp and other nikons .

the 35 2.5 in leica screwmount had a very rare tiny plastic clip on shade ( very rare so you will probably never see it ) and it does not fit any other lens .so the one for the nikon sp type 35mm f2.5 is the right one for the leica type 35mm 1.8 .

i do remember seeing a photo of the rectangular shade posted by nhsw .
so it the correct one for your lense . i had forgotten about it .
the 3.5cm 2.5 shade for nikon rf series is metal clip on type black , it is the one i had with the 3.5cm 1.8 on a leica m2 .
the tiny black plastic hood for the 3.5cm f2.5 in leica screwmount is a 34.5 clip on type , it came with the 2.5 aperature lens on a leica m2 . have never seen another.

with the modern lens coatings the shade is not necessary except in very strong sunlight ,

I remembered reading somewhere that the hood is the same for both the LTM and S mount versions of the 3.5cm f/1.8 lens. Maybe it was Tom's replacement hood...

the 3.5cm 1.8 nikon rf hood is worth big money , it can be easily sold and a good user hood purchased .

i do not have the latest rotoloni nikon book , the book nikon rangefinder cameras ( hove 1983) does not really talk deeply abut the shades , the photo in the book shows the shade larger than the front of the nikon rf lens -- mounting on the 46mm threads of the f stop ring . no mention is made of the leica setup .

the newer book should be more detailed .

Rotolini's book is correct, my bad. I now have a Mint condition AS-48 hood to trade for Tom's replacement hood.

Hoods for 35mm f1.8

Hoods for 35mm f1.8

This thread is sowing a bit of confusion. The 35mm f1.8 Nikkor in S mount takes a 48mm, snap-on hood that is specific to that lens. The filter size is 43mm, and I guess you can mount a 43mm hood, but it would not be the original type sold for this lens. Remember, the 35mm f1.8 Nikkor in S mount has dual threads.
The 35mm f1.8 in Leica thread takes 43mm accessories only. NK did offer a snap-on lens shade for that version that has a rectangular front and is extremely hard to find.
The hood for the 35mm f2.5 in Nikon S mount is 43mm and similar to the 48, but, of course, smaller. It would fit either the Leica thread or the Nikon mount version of the 35mm f1.8, but was not offered as such by NK.
There was a hood in 34.5mm thread to fit the Leica-thread 35mm f2.5, 35mm f3.5 and the 50mm Micro, but it is also so rare as to be almost non-existent.
The last version of the 35mm f2.5 that resembles the f1.8 lens probably takes the same accessories for the f1.8 version.
Hope this helps. WES

Some notes on the 35mm f1.8 sunshades:
The 35mm f1.8mm Nikkor has dual threads: 48mm and 43mm. NK's specific hood for that lens in Nikon S mount is a snap-on 48mm shade. It is designed for that lens only. you could use the 43mm snap-on for the 35mm f2.5 using the inner, filter threads, but that would not be original.
The 35mm f1.8 in Leica mount has a specific hood that is 43mm in mount and has a rectangular front. It is rare.
The 35mm Nikkors in Leica thread and the 50mm Micro took a snap-on hood in 34.5mm thread. This is also rare.
The last version of the 35mm f2.5 that looks like the 1.8 would take the same accessories as the 1.8.
Cheers, WES

I am out of the hoods for the 35f1.8 and 35f2,5 and unless there is a big demand for more - it is not financially viable to run them again. Setting up a CNC machine for this type of run is expensive (around $800-1000) and material is not that cheap either (alloys have gone up 4-fold since I made them).
The advantage of using threadmount hoods is that you can use them to turn the aperture ring, rather than trying to do it with the rather clumsy 35f2.5 ring. They also stay put! One reason the Nikkor 2.5 and 1.8 hoods are so rare is that they kept falling off and getting lost. Nikon also sold the lenses without the hood - so many never bothered to get one.
The 43mm threadmount works well on the LTM 35f1.8. I have kept my own stash of these hoods for various 35f2.5 and 1,8's - which was the reason I made them in the first place.

Managed to have a close up look of the rectangular hood:
