Hello, I've got a Bessa R3m but not a lot of experience with rangefinders. I noticed that the rangefinder shifts depending on where I place an object in the patch. That is, while focusing on the moon at infinity, if the moon is on the right side of the patch, it lines up but if the moon is on the left side of the patch, it tells me that I am back focused. It seems worse the further away the object is with the misalignment already noticeable at 3 meters. Is this by design or is this a malfunction?

Thanks.

Okay thanks. I did notice that at close focus (around 1m) it doesn't shift while my 35SP does (and conversely doesn't shift at longer distances.) I'm guessing it was by design to maybe give more accurate focus at short distances where the depth of field is thinner.

Edit: Actually that doesn't really make sense. Oh well.

I have a R3M. The patch was vertically off. Gave it to a technician. Its perfect, for close and far. No problem focusing with a 1.1 Nokton.

Hmm. Here's a quick diagram to show what I am experiencing. It bugs me.
