[Question] are there M2's with M3 film counter?

Hi, all

recently I saw a question in a Korean Leica user site that asked if there were M2 bodies with the M3 film counter. The guy showed the picture of the M2 body and it really had the M3 counter. Is it a modification or a genuine?

maybe it was an M2 with an M4 top plate.

It probably was an M4 with M2/3 levers. Many users prefer the all metal levers to the plastic tipped ones of the M4 and later.

if the top plate doesn't have those fangs and there's an extra screw on the front near the self-timer, and the rewind is angled, it's a modified m4. no way to be sure without seeing the photo.

yes, a photo would be a big help.
if this camera is not chrome finished, it could have a modified top plate made from two halves of different models.
there were pics of modified Canon 7 bodies here on RFF a few years ago.

Not a chance. There was no such configuration originally produced.

I dont think it could be as simple as an m2 with an m3 top plate because the film counter sit above the plate and you would need to swap out a m3 counter for it, I think it would be more likely a m2 finder in an m3

Sure, it's nearly impossible to mistake a M4 (even with metal levers) with a M2.
