Just got back from a non-photo focused trip to Italy.

I took XPan w 45mm, RD1 w 28 and 50mm, and Canon S90.

Thought I'd post this in light of all the "What equipment should I take? threads"

Learnings:

1) 45mm does not have large enough vertical angle for many buildings even in fairly large piazzas -- first time I thought I might need/want the 30mm

2) 28mm on RD1 is too long for many situations -- took it for VF simplicity -- will be taking 21 or 15 in future
the 50 never got used

3) Leica tabletop tripod w. small ball head worked a treat with the S90 at night, on garbage cans, against walls and columns, etc. Well worth the extra weight compared to lightweight PS tripods. Improved performance came principally from better position locking -- both precision and ability to loosen for position adjustment without it going all floppy.
