The LCD coating on the R-D1 has wear/rub marks on it, which I can not get off. They are not scratches into the LCD, but looks like a coating on the LCD.

It doesn’t seem to effect my reading, but just wondering if there is a way to clean it or remove all the existing coating, or can the LCD cover be replaced?

Thanks in advanced.

you might try a special polishing, just ask your photo dealer. It works if the marks are not too heavy.

Cheers,

I'd try getting a polishing compound especially designed for removing light scratches from lexan screens. You may get it at a motocycle shop as it can be used on the fairing screens of motorcycles ... or possibly at a marine supply as the screens on powerboats etc are made of a similar material. I've used it once ... I got it from a fairing screen manufacturer and it did work! :)

Isn't the outside actually a thin layer of glass? Someone here was recommending a product that is a glass polish, I think. I'll see if I can find the name of the product.

I don't think it's glass regarding the little scratches it easily gets. I think it's a sort of plastic, as on cheaper mobile's. Probably a polish sold at photo or mobile's dealers would be fine.

Brasso is acidic (so it reacts with copper and brass) it wouldn’t be my first choice. If the screen is an uncoated polycarbonate (Perspex or Lexan) a polishing compound isn’t necessary, a dry buffing wheel in a Dremel will restore the finish; however if it’s coated it will have the opposite effect

I bought a used R-D1 with a heavily scratched screen a few months ago.

THIS took the scratches out and made it look literally like new.

You may feel reluctant or nervous to try it, but it took several applications, applied with fairly heavy pressure. It really works.

It looked like sandpaper was rubbed on the screen before I polished it with the DLO treatments, now it looks perfect, shiny with no traces of the scratches.
