Where is the best place in the U.S. to get the rangefinder adjusted? Are there any third party shops that are very good or should I just send it to Epson?

I live in New York and there is a great camera repair store run by Japanese people and they do mostly for leica. They fixed my RD1s.

NIPPON PHOTOCLINIC, INC.
920 Broadway suite # 705
Tel: 212-982-3177
FAX: 212-982-1715

good luck.

I checked with Don and Sherry - neither will do the R-D1 at this time...but as a DIY, it's not that hard (thanks in large part to Rich).

I just picked my RD-1 up from Steve's Camera and I can verify he is the real deal - he doesn't have a huge staff, he is a small shop with a craftsman-like attention to detail.

He services Hasselblads, Leicas and other rangefinders, and knows his way around the RD-1. While I was there he took out a second RD-1 he was servicing for the LCD to show me how careful he is with his work.

My rangefinder is perfect now - I bought my RD-1 used and never knew what a well adjusted rangefinder could do in terms of picture quality lol.. he also cleaned my sensor for no extra charge.

He has been at the same little shop for many years. He works on cameras shipped to him by people all over the world.

My rangefinder repair took less than a 24 hour turnaround but I realize it depends on how busy he happens to be; I can't quote an exact cost because he treats every camera with utmost care and your kit is different from mine. I can say that it was a bit over $150 but not that much more.
