20 minutes later and they seem to be gone again. Odd goings-on in the middle of the night at the Epson Store!
Good news: R-D 1 batteries are back in stock! These are in the regular-priced section of the Epson Store, not the clearance section. So, full regular price ($54.95 less discount) but I was glad to be able to get an extra.
Oddly, when I checked last time and found they were out of stock, I had signed up for email notification when they were available again. I did NOT get an email - just happened to stumble on them. Moral of the story: Don't trust Epson's email notification system!

Interestingly, I actually apply the same code to buy the battery almost two days later, and got a two dollars something discount, it's not too bad....
