R-D1s and the new Summarits

I recently dug out my R-D1s and got it going again. For boring reasons I do not shoot as much as I would like to and I have neglected the Epson the last year. I thoroughly enjoyed the rangefinder experience again and am contemplating investing in additional gear.

From the outset I bought Voigtländer lenses from Robert White and they are not bad at all [I remain the weak link between camera, lenses and photographer...].

I also tried a Zeiss 28mm, but I found it a bit too much Martin Parrish in colours and depth [I love it in any other way].

Therefore I am contemplating the newish Leica Summarit line [one at a time…]. Has anybody tried them on their R-D1(sx) and how do you like them? And if you had any experience with Voigtländer were they worth the investment or did you wish you had stayed with CV?

I am aware of the relative slowish largest aperture, but that is okay. And I do not need a 28mm.

All input much appreciated

PS: I will make another post on an M8 – it is either/or.

Just bought a Summarit 35/2.5 two months ago for both R-D1 and M8.2. If you like contrasty images it is second to none. Good sharpness, smooth bokeh, no visible CA and no visible flare so far. It is said to have CA in the corners and to be soft there below f/4 on the M9 but i have'nt seen those cons on my crop cams so far. My other M 35s are a late Summilux 35/1.4 pre-asph, a Summicron 35/2 v4 and a CV 35/1.4 SC. The Summarit is my favorite for contrasty pics in good light.

That is one impressive collection the Summarit is up against. Thanks for the input. Do you have any pics online taken with it?

None i can show on line sorry, only those samples on M8.2 at f/2.8
(9 MB files). The links are still valid hopefully.

Thanks for sharing. Very shallow DOF.
I really love the last one. Oh, and nice view btw.

I shoot with the 90mm summarit on occasion and find it to work well with the R-D1. Yes, I can reliably focus on mine wide open.

I did own the 35mm f/2.5 summarit and used it mainly on FF M, but also on R-D1. I could compare with the 35mm v4 Leica and it beats it by a fairly obvious margin, no comparison really in the micro contrast and sparkling clarity starting from f/2.5. Tried also on M8.2, and same result, quite revealing.
The high performance of this little gem is even more obvious on a full frame.
the only downside is its distortion, still quite minor, like the 35mm asph, but not as perfect as the v4 Leica 35mm lenses.

@ Yoni - thanks - the 75mm may be the first I dive for (IF)

@ Aldo - that is very positive to hear. Thanks for your input.
