I have acquired my first rangefinder a rank aldis (not sure whether there are different models) 35mm but it has come with no instructions. I think the light meter is working fine but would like to check this further. Can anyone advise me on this, and or perhaps on anything else I should Know about using the camera.

Rank Aldis is model name itself, were manufactured by Mamiya. If it really takes 1.5V cells you have one issue less, compared to most other's dependant on 1.3V mercury cells.
I'd check meter following way - point tested camera and some another, reference camera to same scene. Take reading and if they coincide within stop, I'd feel fine. In place of reference camera I could use also hand held meter. Oh, readings have to be made in different light conditions - lighter and darker to have idea if meter is good at all light range.
