I'd gladly buy it for you. However, I don't think it would fit into your package, along with the film and all. And I know how important that new film is to you, so I'll pass on it, and just send you the film and filter.

I hate always being the one who says this kind of stuff -- but if you look closely at the photos, it appears that the wear areas on the corners show "chrome" instead of "brass" under the paint.

This makes me wonder whether or not this is really a factory-black-finish Canon.

I'd think the factory would have painted the brass top-cover stampings (for better adhesion) rather than chroming the top cover and then painting it.

is it chrome or just a reflection of some light source?

i can't tell.
no matter to me as it's not in the budget.

Some of it could be reflections, but the areas just above and below the film-counter-reset wheel look like definite wear marks to me.

Again, I'm just speculating. But on the other hand, I wouldn't want to pay a price based on the idea that there are only 200 factory-black L1s in existence, without making pretty darn sure this was one of them!

Considering the seller's story of how he obtained the camera, he wouldn't necessarily know for sure whether the paint was original or not -- so I'm not saying he's dishonest. The camera could have been painted by some previous owner who just wanted a black one. (I think a really serious forger - someone with an intent to defraud - would have taken a little extra trouble to de-plate the chrome finish first; it's not all that difficult.)

Or it could be completely legit, and I'm just misinterpreting a few random glints in the pictures. Caveat emptor, that's all I'm saying...

The Canon 7 for $350 with 50mm F1.8 is from Allen Rong. I have bought Nikon RF's, (SP, Two S2's, S3, and lenses) from him, and Nikon SLR's (Black Nikkormat FT3) and the Summaron from his Father for over 10 years. I have always dealt with him in person, and have given him "wish lists" to hunt for. My 8.5cm F2 Nikkor is one such item. I certainly will buy from him again.
