Re covered Ikonta images.

I have taken a couple of images showing look of the GRIPTAC covering I had put on my camera. One image compares the finish with two Leica's an M3 and an M6.
My next job is to find what the paint was covering the camera, hoping that I can then re do the outside metal where it was worn off.

Well, I would have thought there would be some comments for and against what I have done with the covering of the camera, so do you like or dislike it ?

One thing I forgot to mention before was that when I removed and cleaned the covering, I discovered that the little bumps, bubbles or what looked like small screws pushing up on the old covering, were in fact voids underneath. They were drill holes from casting and machine working on the body, there were a lot more than I had expected to see. Also there are a large amount of rivets holding things together under the covering.

Well, I guess most of us have seen recovered cameras. Yes, it looks nice.

Usually, the bumps (called Zeiss Bumps by many) under the old leather are caused by corrosion of the copper rivets they used in the old days. I would have thought empty holes would have caused dips.

I have read that the bumps can be removed in nice covers by slitting the cover over them, cleaning out the green gunk, and gluing the cover back down. If done carefully it is supposed to be almost invisible. I have not tried it yet myself.

Where did you get your covering? I get mine from cameraleather.com precut to fit specific cameras and in many colors and textures. I have a Retina-I that I need to cover but will need to buy a sheet of self-adhesive leather and cut it myself due to the bends on the lens cover.

Griptac provides best grip to your camera. But for the look...especially with Leica's they make me feel I am looking at a Zorki :p

I have never seen a camera re covered before, so this was a trip for me. Cameraleather.com did the job, he had never done an Ikonta before so he could not cut me the sheets, meaning I was in his hands after I cleaned it.
