Speak of the Devil
Let say I want to undertake repainting a black barrel Elmar 9cm lens...
Anyone have any advice or a link to a process to insure an acceptable finished product?
I just dont want to go into this blind as painting with an enamel on a 70 year old lens could be tricky to get smooth and not built up in the grooves.
I appreciate any experiences or advice.

Personally, I wouldn't try. To get a good even finish, it would need to be sprayed, preferably by airbrush. Nearly all the paints available for use at home would last minutes with the handling a lens gets and as you would have to strip off the old finish first, it would look even worse in a short time. to get any lasting finish, you would need to anodise it or at least use an industrial paint finish.
