Recommendations requested for "my next printer"

What are you using / recommending for a new color photo printer?

My R1800 is headed to the recycler.

Usage profile:
- infrequent usage (once a week or two weeks)
- 4x6 and 8x10 happy snaps
- letter sized paper printing

I need reliability.

get your 1800 fixed! It's one of the good ones. Mine shut down with the ink tub problems and some other issues...had it fixed an an epson dealer for about $175 and its like new..was an easy and satisfying experience
 

Great printer, But overkill for the required specs.

OP - would be good to know if "happy snaps" includes BW or only color. Also, would you feel limited by a printer that works best on glossy paper? Epson and Canon have great printers that are smaller and less expensive and shine with color and glossy. Eg. Epson Artisan 1430 or PIXMA iP7220

If you need great BW, fine art papers, and sizes up to 13" wide, then the R3000 is a great choice.
 
As always it depends. I am using a Pixma Pro 100 and I love it. It allows me to print large if I want, black and white if I want (has 3 black or gray cartridges) but also deals well with infrequent printing because the ink nozzles do not have to pre-charge. The cost is decent (about $300 via Amazon). The only downsides are the size and the available paper profiles. This is a pretty big printer so you will need someplace big to put it, it really doesn't work sitting next to you on a desk. Since it is relatively new the number of papers that work with it are not well defined yet.

I checked and there is a service guy in Ottawa. I took it in for repair today.

He thinks some component has failed, and my failure profile matches his description of the problem / fix (banding).
