Last Sunday legendary Magnum photographer Rene Burri made an appearance at the Design Museum Zurich where his retrospective exhibition was being shown. It was the last day of the exhibition and he was holding a signing session.

We spotted him walking towards the museum and stopped him for some photos outside. There was about 5-6 of us crowding around him, taking photos of him. He then asked us to stand in a group with our cameras facing him while he took a shot of us. He was using a Leica digital P&S! He mentioned that the late Werner Bischof (another Swiss member of Magnum) had taken a similar photo of press photographers jostling for a photo.

He was totally obliging and a really pleasant character. There must have been about 200-300 people getting signatures through the afternoon.

I used my Mamiya 6 with the 75mm f/3.5 lens with Neopan 400 and Delta 3200.

Rene Burri seems to be a popular guy on this forum 😉 This is the second sighting so far. This thread:

was started by another forum member (Avotius) who saw him in China. He was sporting a film Leica and an HP digicam. Same hat though 😉

I'd love to bump into a magnum photographer in Boston 😉 Unfortunately, if any are in town, I usually find out after they have left.

Hrmmm the preview button isn't showing the link as a URL. If it doesn't work, here is the link: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14409&highlight=burri
