Hi Everyone. I'm new here. Last time I bought CLE with Rokkor 40mm third CLE version. Unfortunately when I received camera I noticed that on rear element of lens is small dot. What do you think it is? It's difficult to clean? Thanks for your advice.

Have you tried to wipe it off with a cotton bud and alcohol?

Is the dot on the outer surface? Looks as if it might be on an inner surface. What do you see through a magnifier glass?
by the way, the solvent used can be significant in cleaning some things off of lenses. Sometimes alcohol works, sometimes naphtha is best, sometime water, windex, I've even used acetone on some spots and had them clear up.

Certainly won't affect photos. Hard to tell from the photos where it's located (internal or external) as it's very difficult to shoot glass imperfections.

Thanks for your suggestions. I think it's inside, near rear lens.
I shot more photos and videos, please check it.

Hmmm.... a lot of spotting on that lens. Maybe someone else can speak up with more experience but those lenses are known for developing spots in the coating. I know backlighting is a stress test or any lens. Can you return that lens and find a cleaner copy?

Well, I bought it with minolta cle in really beautiful condition on ebay. And yes, I can return all set. But seller proposed me 300usd compestation for this lens. Now I have a little headache.

Its the 28mm Rokkor with the spots.

Take the 300 and keep the lens! Looks great to me, just some dust which when out of focus with backlighting can look ominous. That should take great photos.

I have two of them...cosmeticallly pristine. varying degrees of "spots" There is a company in the Netherlands I believe that has a lot of experience with cleaning these lenses depending on the actual cause..and there are two major causes.

You will find a decent explanation of the causes and possible fixes.

Agreed, take the money. Get a lens hood and go shoot. Enjoy- nice camera and nice lens.

Put lens on camera and shoot. Stop holding lens to eyeball.
Actually if it really worries you send it off and get it cleaned ~$100. You'll be tough to find a 50 year old lens that looks like new.
