Received my Retina IIc back from Chris Sherlock today. It looked really good on the cosmetic side before I sent it to New Zealand, but the internals match the outside now. The shutter sounds very close at 1 second and doesn't stick at all. Everything moves very easily including the focus and cocking lever. Best of all is the viewfinder. Wow, just wow! I stepped out 30 minutes after the sun went down in our backyard tonight and was able to align the focus patch on things. So clear. I can't wait to run a roll of film through it now that everything is adjusted. Major props to Chris for the awesome CLA. If everything works as good as I think it will it was worth every penny!

Hear that every time about Chris.

It always makes me glad when old classics have had a good CLA and/or repair so they can be used as they are supposed to be used!

Chris Sherlock CLA:ed a pre-war Retina IIa for me, and everything is smooth and yes the viewfinder is perfectly clean! But he did a mistake when assembling the trigger so the double exposure prevention doesn't work, and the rangefinder has a problem (the double image moves after focusing, so I can't be sure that the lens is in focus or not).

It has the f=2 Xenon and I want to be able to shoot it at full aperture, so it's important that the rangefinder works correctly.

Chris promised to fix that and said he will do it if I send another Retina för CLA. The shipping is expensive, so it would be smart to send it with another camera and the IIa as on a "piggy ride" in the packet. But I have stopped collecting Retinas, so I think I will have to send the IIa alone and take the shipping cost.
