I've pretty much "bought back" everything that I sold off, at the start of the year, due to seller's regret.
On a few things, I've had to pay more. On some things, the re-acquired item was in worse condition than the one I sold.
Moral of the story, don't sell. Just shoot.
Sit it on the shelf if you tire of it, but be assured, you'll rediscover it again later.

Perhaps don't buy in the first place, then you'll never know what you're missing out on.

Oh, I wish I could.
There is a lot I don't buy. But, if it is engraved "Leica", I have a fatal weakness.

I also suffered from a reverse GAS. I agree don't sell your stuff. You usually end up regretting it!

I only regret selling my Konica Hexar AF (to fund my M2 though) then my 28mm Kobalux which I got for less than $300 in 2004. Now I can't find one for less than $700!
But that's really it.
The cool thing about not having money to spend on stuff is that I don't spend it.

Seller's regret is a weird thing. I've sometimes re-bought something I had previously sold, only to re-discover again why I sold it in the first place.. Wise lesson learned: never buy for a second time something I've sold or traded in..

I sold off a whole load of stuff a couple of years ago but it's only when I go back through my archive and look at a specific photo and think I wish I still had that lens that I get the feeling of re-purchasing.
I then try to recall why I sold the lens in the first place - which is usually because I had another the same focal length that I preferred and go to the photos from the lens I still have and re-assure myself.
As for camera bodies, I do miss my MP and M7 but still have a Zeiss Ikon (better to me in some ways than the M7) and my M3 (which is better to me in some ways than the MP).

In the last 6 or 7 years I sold my M6, M2, Noctilux, 28mm Elmarit, 50mm summicron and some bits and pieces. This funded my digital equipment - Canon 1D11N , 20D 3 "L" lenses and some odds and ends. The trouble is, since digital equipment (especially camera bodies) dates so quickly the digitals are now worth very little whereas the Leica stuff has appreciated, or at least kept up with inflation.
Needless to say I have been beating myself up ever since. Hope I don't get thrown off the forum.

Seems like just plain old GAS to me...

Usually, yes. Unless you have something that does the same job, better, and that you enjoy using more. Which is why (for example) I don't miss the M2 I sold to Cam a year or two ago. Though in all fairness, I still have another one, with a Rapidwinder on it. (I initially mistyped Rapidwonder and thought of leaving it that way).
Cheers,

Not regretted a camera sale yet (not too much anyway), but lenses however are another matter. I'm thinking of re-acquiring a lens I sold just a month ago. (insert head shaking movement here)

I almost regretted that I sold an M8 almost two years ago now. I still look at the classifieds, but always remember all the s**t that is the M8. I love Leica, but it has to produce workable photographs. When the M9 is the same prize as the M8 is now, I will go Leica digital again.
I just sold a Hasselblad kit and a Contax G2 kit and compensated for the loss with buying a M7, CM and 3-4 other cameras... I haven't regretted yet.

Finally at home...
A good idea is to wait for a while before you sell.
All the items I sell have been in my cabinet - untouched - for at least 6 months.
After that time you know that you don't really use it and that you won't miss it.
Furthermore I only sell things that can be replaced other things in my set.
For example I would not have a problem to sell any 28mm SLR lens after I got my Rokkor 2/28.

Vick,
I understand! I tend to have this feeling more with bicycle parts, and I understand this feeling completely, so I really scrutinize what I am selling and how I feel about it.
Did you buy back a titanium F2???
I have a friend, another collector (not cameras), who told me this years ago:
1. Get what you can
2. Can what you get
3. Sit on your can.
Best wishes from a guy with similar tastes and thoughts, Bob
