RF Book Project - Next steps

"So I signed up for that book project thing....what do i do now?"

Great question and happy you asked!

I'm still waiting on some answers back from LuLu as to image size, etc so I don't have those answers yet but what you as a participant can do at this point is:

1) I need your email address
Email me your email address at aperture (at) gmail.com (and also let me know if ok or not to share it with the rest of the participants).

2) I need a photo of your camera
For the back-cover of the book we will use photos of YOUR rangefinder camera. So dig out a photo taken of your favorite(?) rangefinder camera (coffee or no coffee) and send it me at the same email and I will add it here: [url]http://www.pbase.com/rsilfverberg/back_cover_photos[/url]
Note: Photos of your camera also need to be at 300 dpi in order for them to print well

3) Select your TWO photos for submission
Start thinking about what TWO photos you want to contribute with. Or simply load up the camera and go out and shoot. Remember you don't have to have your final selection made until end-September so you still have time to make a 'new winner' :)

Don't submit them to me yet as there are still questions open on size, etc.

4) Be there to provide input and comments
Be ready to provide feedback on draft for;
- covers,
- foreword,
- text (see poll), and eventually final PDF layout.

These drafts will be posted at http://www.pbase.com/rsilfverberg/rf_boook_project so please BOOKMARK that site and check in regularly for updates.

Time-Line:

1 - I am hoping eveyone can have their email address to me by this Friday (sept. 17th)

2 - I am hoping everyone can have the photo of their camera to me by the following Friday (sept. 24) (We need to give Todd some time to piece them together on the back cover :) ).

3 - I am hoping everyone have their photos picked and scanned by end-september (yes, I still owe you size, etc details) :)

About the next step(s) - the photo of favourite RF camera - is it OK to send digital snaps?
I know it's not really in the spirit of the book, but it's easier :)
And it's not like the bokeh, etc., is really important in such a photo, which will probably be the size of a thumbnail, anyway..
Otherwise I'll have to take some more photos - I'm planning to send a photo of my Koni Omega ;)
 
Denis, for the photo of the camera(s) for the cover-back a digital snap is certainly ok!
There the main point is the camera IN the photo :)

Is it too late to jump on board? I'm new to joining and haven't had a chance to upload any images yet, however, this sounds like fun.
 
Lets keep our fingers crossed for success, I define that as actually getting this one done and everyone getting one copy for themselves, and it sounds like we will be able to make the next one bigger.
 
Maybe this has already been mentioned -- I'm losing track a little -- but we need a graphic for the spine as well. Probably just the text of the title.

Good thinking Gene, I was wondering about that as well. I wonder if that is an option or does "lulu" handle that in a generic fashion?

Hi Richard, any news on the pixel size and dpi for the photos from LuLu? :)
 
I got a very generic reply that I wasn't too happy with..but then again maybe I'm asking for too much in terms of guidance here.

A) They do recommend 300 DPI as it does print better.

B) We were right on track with the Colour option as that is THE option when it comes to printing photos

C) As far as the sizes for the photos they said it was a personal decision and just re-iterated the 8.5x11 book size and said that the photos needed to fit within that.
