Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and I'm about to purchase a fixed lens RF (probably a toss up between a Minolta Hi-matic or Canon GIII at this stage.

Just wondered if there is RF specialist who can do a thorough cleaning job on the camera. It seems that all these cameras need it due to age.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

What part of Australia are you in? There are older cameras, but I will have to find their contact details.

BTW, if you are close to Sydney, have you checked the thread regarding the camera market next month?

Hi Heath,

I'm in Sydney. I've never been to one of those fairs in Ultimo, though I've always been intrigued. I guess I don't know that much about collectables so haven't bothered.

I will go to this one though. In trying to decide on a 70's rangefinder I have done a lot of research this week and seem to know a lot more about rangefinders, even though I actually haven't used one as yet.

still on the lookout for a Minolta hi-matic 7sII in good nik......

We are getting a small group together for the next one. You are more than welcome to tag along with us, and I am sure there will be somone in the group that can point out some good bargains for you if you ask nicely.

What part of Sydney are you in? I am not far from the Olympic site myself. In fact I am close enough that I can walk there.

Hi Heath,

Thanks for the offer of tagging along. I'd like that. I'm in Kingsford (not far from UNSW).

But I'm still not sure whether I can make it on the day. There are other photographic things happening that day. There is some expo at Fox studios. I think there will be reps there from different companies..Epson etc., giving demos of their products.

I'm actually looking at printing on different materials (such as canvas) to give my photos more of a fine art feel, so I may end up there instead. If you're digitally inclined, the link is: http://www.adaptshow.com.au/theexhibition/default.asp

and no I'm not a promoter or involved with this event in any way.

If I go to Ultimo, I'll let you know beforehand. Good to tag along with people who know what they're on about.

Thanks.

It would be great if you could make it. But if you go to the other onee let us know what it is like.

We should meet up one day. I am also into digital photography. I have a 300D that I use a lot, plus 2 film EOS's.

Try contacting Erl or James Burton directly for repairers - I am only visiting Melbourne pro tem. In Perth I use Max Dallaway in Subiaco, but there has to be good repairers here. I notice that Day's camera shop on the corner of Hardware Lane, a Leica specialist does repairs. Good luck.

There should be enough info on this site to enable you to do it yourself. If you stuff it up you havn't lost much money. I cleaned half a beach from my Canonet QL17 GIII.
It really was a dirty little bugger. Now it's resting in my avatar until I can find a nice lens shade for it :) I should also replace the light seals but havn't got around to it.

parasko hasn't posted since 11 June. I guess he gave up.

Glad I'm not the only one with half a beach in my camera! See, G'man, this happens to all our cameras down here!!!

Oh yeah, I didn't look at the dates.

I reckon the sand comes from those Sunday arvos down at Mornington (or Cronulla after the head shaving :) or wherever one goes near you.

Hey at least the focussing mechanism give that crisp crunchy feeling even if the negs don't :)
