A site that Todd provided linked me over to a self-publishing site: http://www.lulu.com/

Now there is a ton of self-publishing sites out there with different kits/options. What attracts me to this site is that it does not charge for the publishing but rather takes a pretty steep 20% commission on future sale.

There's also a bunch of calendars that people have pieced together for 'publishing': http://calendars.lulu.com/category/7027

Some time ago a bunch of people at onfal - in the toycamera forum there - got together to publish a coffee-table book with their own images.

I'm sure you can see where this is heading...

Now that we've grown as a site and the holiday seasons are coming up on us...how many people would be interested in being part of a Rangefinder Photography book?

I see this as very much a PHOTO book with a little bit of narrative per image and information about what camera, lens and film was used.

I'd also be interested in other publishing sites out there that people may already have direct experience with.

Since many of these self-publishers print-on-demand there is often no minimum quantity needed. We'd simply slap it onto Amazon and buy it ourselves from there.

Thinking...maybe we could get 25 photographers from here on-board...two photos each...50 images... off it goes... :)

Thoughts?

Lulu, I believe, can only do B&W reproductions on printed books. But there's also the option of creating an eBook, which can be in colour. An eBook on Lulu is created in PDF format.

I'd certainly be willing to help out.

Gene, I'm not married to LuLu - actually I'm looking around to see what options there are. On the other hand...B&W would work well in my selfish mind :)

Personally I really like the concept of a traditional paper-based book. You can hold it in your hand, show it to friends and colleagues, hey..even give it away as a gift..much easier than an eBook.

i'm intrigued.

i doubt that i would be of much help though.
if we need some seed money i most definately would be of little use. i might be able to scrape a few schekles together but limited.

Joe, I think one of the going-in-requirements is that there will be NO money-down from anyone here.

i wonder if a book like this has ever existed?

internationallly based photographers coming together on the internet with a forum as the base meeting place.

hhhmmm...

Sounds interesting. Not that I think I'll have much quality to put in but if you guys can put up with my shots, I'm in. :)

Yeah it was done over at toycamera.com (Holga's, Diana's etc) for one I know of.

I'm interested - not that I have much to offer in the way of "publishable" photos, though :)

Most excellent idea! Only now I'll really have to go out and take a lot of pictures, since all my others are Canon SLR based.

Sounds very interesting, I'd like to contribute :) (picture 'quality' depending hehe)
Editing the book could be difficult given the high quality of the pics on this site!

I read up on the LuLu site and it seems that we could even assign ISBN number to the proposed book! This is getting rather exciting and we are on the threshold of making our work seen and making RFF known to more photographers. So what is the title? First Harvest? :)
