Back at the start of 2007, when I was unmarried and didn't need to change nappies at 5am, Nico had the grand old idea of having a RFF meet in Europe.

It was in Paris that spring and the following years saw Berlin, Barcelona and this year was Florence.

The premise of these has been to be take ideas of where to go from members living there so that we see those places that are not in the guide books or those that are, from a different perspective.

I was a bit hesitant going at first, I'd been to some meets in London and found it a bit too geeky. But at each EuroMeet, everyone has been super friendly and nice and everyone has gotten on really well, perhaps if the United Nations were into rangefinders the world would be ok.

Anyway, the point of this rambling is that there should be a meet this coming spring, perhaps decide the place for the end of January and dates for early February so that people can get cheap tickets?

I'm unlikely to go unless it is close, so no voting for me.

So, where?

Here are the threads for the previous years:

I have not joined any of the previous meets, but it sounds interesting. I will come if time (and wife 😉 ) allows.

What about Valencia? I have visited the city ones and it is FULL of photographic opportunities.

France, Germany, Spain and Italy have been locations in the past so maybe its best to go elsewhere.

Prague
Istanbul ( we could make it a Euro meets Asia RFF meet up😀)
Tallinn
Amsterdam
Budapest
Lisbon
...or London so that the grand wizard himself can come along, sans baby though eh?

By the way, having hoped to go to both the Berlin and Barcelona trips I was finally able to make it to the Florence meet earlier this year and had a great time. A chance to see a European city with all the knowledge of its inhabitants, time to hang out with some groovy peeps, with gear you wish you had, over good food, good coffee and good beer all whilst avoiding getting too geeky as you'll be off shooting again before you know it.

Can't you make it your 'official' family holiday Kully? Who else will cajole Lluis into early morning cheap wine drinking or supply our merry band with odd local concoctions throughout the day...who Kully, who?!😀

Hehe, Tallinn would be pretty convinient for me, as OurManInTangier sugested, among others (my hometown).

But my suggestion would be Iceland! (-:
If it must be in Europe, I highly recommend Prague. Amazing city!

Istanbul.
Very interesting city on the border of Europe and Asia. Very cheap to stay too. But do we have any RFF members there.
If we decide on Amsterdam I'll can show you guys around and maybe we can do Delft and Leiden too or Alkmaar(cheese). All very close to A'dam.

Cheers,

Michiel Fokkema

Richard ( Semrich ) is in Istanbul, though I wouldn't like to descend on him with twenty fellow RFF'ers in tow without him being happy to be involved. Iceland would be funky, especially for any landscape photographers amongst us but it is quite expensive which may cause some people to drop out.

Any other suggestions?

Sorry Kully, don't want to 'take over,' just excited like a little schoolgirl 😀...I really did enjoy Florence and meeting everyone that went

LONDON the Week-end before the summer solstice, so 18-19 June.
I'll be there anyway.. 😉

Being both, my wife and me retired next year if no problem arise meantime we would like to take part. Where ? No preference yet, possibly in a place where "photography is not a crime" 😀

Hi everyone
i am living istanbul and i would like to put you up 🙂)
i am living at the European side of Istanbul and as i know Richard (Semrich) is living at the Asia side of Istanbul. if you choose istanbul for meeting, i can help all of you while organizing your trip.

As a Prague resident I vote for Prague

I live here only 1 year and lots of nappies to change this year, then I still need to discover the city.

If you decide Amsterdam a couple of cool people can crash in my guestroom.
Lots of photo opportunities in this city. And if you get tired of shooting there's other things to do, like getting high, whore-hopping, drinking and going to see Van Gogh. No, scratch that, Foam instead of Van Gogh, one of the best photo museums around.

London I say.
I had (almost) no problems with my camera vs 'law enforcement', I was on my own most of the time though.

excited to see the gang again, the usual suspects and new faces!
and I probably owe pretty much everyone who has been to the last 2-3 meets 1-2 litres of beer.

(nico, did you finally get around to meeting roberto?)

I'm hesitant to say anything about London in case of bias but...

Really, you're not likely to have any problems street-shooting in London. The problems mostly come with SLRs with large lenses carried by the stereo-typical photogeek taking photos of buildings and then trying to argue with whoever questions them instead of being sensible and realising it's easier to say "sorry bloke" and walking away.

I've been dragging my carcass around London snapping away for years with the only problem being a couple who were not meant to be toghether and didn't want pictorial proof.

The other thing is getting here would probably be super easy for anyone.

But I keep thinking about what Phantomas said...

What is the street-shooting situation in Amsterdam? Are people cool? Only been there once and if it is full of people like I was then... eeek!
