Ricoh GRD 3 Blog

I'll have to follow these blogs. I like, especially, that Petronius says his blog is about photos with the GRD 3. There seems to be a tendency among GR users to always use "GR" rather than specifying which one they are using.

I have not used the grd3...but have used the I, IV and the new GR. They are kind of different and all rock in their own way. Would love to try a 3 some day.

I am a big fan of yours Petronius.

Love your work, your ideas, and insights.

That´s right. I´m looking fora GRD I and searching for it brings up way more GR (APS) models than I want to see;-)

If you like the edgy, grainy B&W look, the original GRD (1) is it.

RAW write time is painfully slow, but JPEG is quick, and black and white is great.

Important information:
The pictures in my blog are mostly not straight OOC! I shoot jpg (ISO 1600 whenever possible, black and white, contrast and sharpness @ maximum; underexposed 0,7-1)

I crop the pictures, but I try to keep the 4:3 ratio, sometimes I shoot in "Vivian Maier mode": 1:1;-)

I use additional software (Graphicconverter, GIMP, DxO FilmPack 3) to give them the look I want.

And no, I don´t like the built in HC mode; I tried it sometimes, but I never was fully satisfied with this look.

I enjoy your work, too, and will follow along.

My tumblr is at this location. Mostly 50/50 GR and MM.

I think I could go all-GR, but just can't handle parting with my other gear.

What brought you down the digital only path?

John

John, I don´t know. For this moment I would say I´m just lazy. In my actual opinion my film pictures don´t look so much better than the convenient digital files.
Even the use of my film cameras doesn´t please me so much more that I would go through all the shooting developing scanning fuzz.
(For all of you: This is my personal opinion, so please no "which is better"-war!)

BTW I like the pictures in your tumblr John. Following!

Thanks for the link Petronius. I've always enjoyed your work and will follow along. I've put much of my GRD III, IV and GR work on my tumblr page.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the compliment and follow. And for your thoughts on film. Hope I don't take your thread in a vs. direction, but you mentioned it in our first post, so I was curious. Personally, I enjoy spending what little free time I have on the front-end making pictures, rather than on all that back end work.

I've never used tags in my tumblr posts but am going to start now. Just not crazy about how they look on the page.

Nice work, John. And I like your processing very much. Following now.

Zeno, I'm liking your posted images more and more. Clearly you are getting to know the little GR quite well. As your tumblr posts have increased, the images are becoming as powerful as your Rollie film work. Thanks for the inspiration (as always).
