I admit that the Ricoh GR series is one camera that intrigued me ever since the first time I saw one owned by a friend of mine back in 90s. The ergonomics and size are just right.
I have been very happy with the color and quality of Fuji X-trans images. But getting the wide angle lenses from Fuji make the whole camera big.
So, assuming Ricoh GR uses the same sensor as Pentax K5, could someone shed some light on the image rendition?

Umm... the 18mm f2 for fuji X is the same focal length as the ricoh GR's lens, and it's very very small...

Not a lot of samples out there yet, but Ricoh did publish a comparison of GR with X18/2 for what it's worth:
http://photorumors.com/2013/04/17/r...-canon-g1xg15-sony-rx100-and-nikon-coolpix-a/
Regarding size, the x18/2 on X-E1 would be about double the thickness of X-E1 body

That photo makes my RX-100 look impressive.

I bet the Ricoh's lens will be better overall than the 18mm Fuji. I use the 18mm fuji right now and it's not the best of lenses. That said, it is small and fast for what it is.

Gavin, if memory serves me, Ricoh GR series is a P&S size camera that is begged to be carried everywhere even in a pocket.
X-E1 + X18 is nowhere near P&S size.

The sample photo looks encouraging.
But what about Pentax K5 sensor rendering in general?

It is most likely the same proven 16.1MP sensor made/designed by Sony plus the OEM manufacturers' own tweaks. Cameras with this sensor, from the Nikon D7000 which is one of the earliest incarnations to the AA filter-less K-5 IIs, perform very similarly in RAW shooting on a high level.
I personally think image quality is the least of concern now when choosing cameras, as they are all good.

Hi Archlich, thanks for the info. I have no doubt image quality will be more than my capability to exploit it. Ditto high ISO.
However, my question is more about how it renders the image. Maybe this is a harder question to answer just based on sensor technology.
For example, though both Olympus OMD and Fuji X series have excellent image quality, I simply prefer Fuji color and image output directly from the camera.

I'm sure you've seen this right?

If you like Fuji's OOC jpeg, I don't think you would like Ricoh's jpg. However, if you process raw, which one do you prefer? (LR4.4: in camera color temperature, identical process):
