The shutter of my Rollei 35 S remains open at all speeds and apertures until I advance the film. I should have known better since I damaged three black and white rolls of TMY. However I thought that the rolls were loaded incorrectly until I decided to use a new roll of Tri-X.

Well I decided to bite the bullet and went for Krikor Maralian for CLA. So the camera is in the mail now and its going to be one week for her to reach his shop and then find the way to bring it back!

What could have caused this, if I use the camera regularly?

Regards,

Mine Rollei 35 sticked at slow speeds until I removed top cover. Seems that it were dented slightly from front where left hand grips, at least I straightened area which is right in front of speed mechanism. Your case sounds to be different, though.

I'm certainly not expert on the Rollei 35's shutter mechanism, but in general that sort of problem, particularly when it appears without apparent cause, is often either binding caused by lack of lubrication, binding due to old/hardened/sticky lubricants, or a failed spring. It's also possible that something unrelated broke or dislodged and jammed the mechanism.

It might be the little cam linking the shutter and the shutter actuation mech. having come unscrewed. It happens quite often because this cam receives much friction and vibrations on every shot. The screw is secured with glue but over time the glue often gets brittle. In this case this is a 2 minutes DIY fix.

Some bad news, Krimar Photoshop deemed my Rollei 35S beyond repair...shutter is damaged and there's a screw broken inside the lens.

Incredible! I have been taking good pictures with her for the last year or so since I bought it!

Any suggestions? The cost of repair is $300 and on eBay, due to the Spring or Summer seasons, the cameras are above $300!
