Thanks to all who supported my original thread here months ago...we' have success! Email from RRS repeated below.

"Hi Paul,

Ok, we’re really doing it! We’re making an L-plate for the M8/M9. To keep folks informed on the progress of this new project, I created a custom email list for all the folks who responded to your post asking for an L-plate. I did send out an email to that small list today. The plates should be ready to ship by end of May. I would greatly appreciate it if you could announce this new product on your Leica forum. The item is not yet available for pre-order because I don’t have final pricing. Here is what we’re making:

1 – Base plate with integrated dovetail that replaces the base on the M8 & M9. This base will be a conventional quick-release plate for mounting in landscape mode.

2 – Optional vertical component that turns the conventional base plate into an L-plate. The vertical component will screw securely to the base plate.

3 – Optional grip. This will screw securely to the other side of the base plate.

We’re really excited about this new product, Paul. I don’t anticipate selling hundreds of these plates, but everything you and your passionate Leica buddies can do to spread the word is appreciated! Interested shooters should sign up for our custom “Leica L-plate” email list. We’ll announce progress and pricing there. The easiest way to sign up is go to our storefront:

If folks are already receiving our monthly eNewsletter, they should submit their email address anyway and update their profile to add the new Leica L-plate email list. Thanks Paul.
