Well-known
Hi everybody,
I live in Tokyo near a big river. I often walk around there, and recently started running there as well. There are loads of bridges around there, and I want to make a series for an exhibition or a calendar or something a little more serious than just Flickr.
I would like to pack a small digital camera that can take hi-res wide angle photos. Ideally around 24mm. I also want to shoot long exposure, especially at night. I want to print fairly large, so my minimum is about 16MP of good quality.
As for my options:
1. Ricoh GR
I was thinking about the new Ricoh GR, because I really like Ricoh cams (I had the GRD3 and GXR before). With the 21mm adapter, 16MP, and a new sensor without AI filter sounds great. However it is rather pricey. I also shoot video, so I always think about using gear for multiple purposes. For the money I could buy a nice lens for another system that I can use on my video cameras as well.
2.
Fuji EX1 plus 14mm lens.
Sounds really nice, but kind of out of my price range, and with the same issues, besides for fuji photo cams there is little other stuff I can do with it. I am also worried about the X-trans RAW files with there Paint effect (I had the EX-1 for a while and didn't like it). I do like the light weight though.
3.
MFT camera.
This option I am really interested in, as I might buy a MFT compatible video camera later this year. These cams are not to expensive, and I can use all sorts of lenses. They kind of max out at 16MP though, and wonder how printable they are at that res. Also I am not to fond of the crop-factor and the rendering it gives. Still I am interested in hearing options for models and lenses, especially at the wide end!
4.
Sony Nex
I have a nex compatible video camera I use for work, they are APC, and small, so they seem like a good option. However I don't like the controls at all, and not sure which lens I would use, as I am not to interested in buying E-mount only lenses. I also don't know how they perform for long exposures. Has anyone got experiences with these? I might get the speed booster at some point anyway, so I could use a full frame lens as well.
Any ideas highly appreciated!
Not just about equipment, but also about taking these kind of images in general, for example, if I should use a polariser, or how to secure my tripod when it's windy!
Cheers!
