I'm new to this Forum, and just waiting for my Voigtlander R3A (40mm, Grey) to arrive from Poole...

Yes I'm really looking forward to using it, rather than my Nikon F90X with a F1.4 50mm Lens!! I used to have a Leica IIIC (1949), but I sold it !?

...has anybody experienced using Russian (Ukraine) Lenses on the R3A? I've been very selective on eBay - I've got a BESSA L to try them them out first.

Suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

Welcome to RFF...

You should find tons of information here by doing a search for Jupiter, Industar, FSU lenses, etc...

I have no personal experience using a R3a, but I would warn against mounting a J-12 (35/2.8) on that camera & also your Bessa L... Any of the other Russian/Ukrainian LTM lenses should work great assuming you have a mechanically sound lens (another possible exception is the Russar 20/5.6).

Have fun!

Peter

With an appropriate LTM to M adapter, there should be no problem using FSu lenses on your Bessa R3A. Go visit the 'Russian RF' section and read some older threads. There are also some tests by Raid Amin comparing 50m lenses, and recently the 85-105 teles in the 'General discussion'.

As mentioned before, don't try mounting Jupiter 12 on it. You might damage the lens (damaging the camera this way is impossible).

I use Jupiter-8 2/50, Industar-61 2/53 and Jupiter-9 2/85 with my Bessa R. They are all great lenses. Especially considering that they are just a little worse than Leica for MUCH less money.

And welcome to the RFF.

Do not underestimate the Red Army.

I've gotten some of the sharpest photos I've ever taken with my Jupiter 8 and Jupiter 12. I also own a Jupiter 9, which I haven't gotten results back from (fingers crossed) and I'm looking for a Jupiter 3 eventually. If you can handle a 50/2.8 Tessar, the Industar 61 L/D is generally regarded as one of the sharpest Russian lenses.

Basically, you will love all of them, and they are cheap like borscht.

I really LOVE my jupiter-3 and jupiter-8(j-8 esp good with color) I also had a industar-50 collapsible, which was amazing.

I had a jupiter 9 which was good but not that sharp and in industar-61 that made soft flat negs.

fedka.com if you want to buy in the US at a slight premium, is a good option. However, most russian/ukranian sellers off ebay presented no problems.

good luck, r3A is a good camera.
