Hi there,

A little while back I posted a few photos from the russian Industar-22 attached to my M3. Well some people asked about how does J-3 compares to it.
Here are some photos for your comments. I tried to take these at the same place and even same time (just different day) as ones with I-22. HEREhttp://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=403295#post403295 are photos from the I-22.
Below are some from J-3. FIrst 2 at about f5.6-8. Last one at f2-2.8.

What do you think?

I recently acquired a Zorki "C" with the Industar 22 lens. I have Yuri @ Fedka.com do a cla including new curtains on the camera. Then he found a clean J3 lens for me. Results so far show the J3 to be a bit more vibrant with colors. I have two rolls of Ilford XP2 at the lab. So I'll get the results tomorrow.

And yet another Russian lens pics Russian Sonnar 50/2

And yet another Russian lens pics Russian Sonnar 50/2

I thought I would add a couple more photos from another Russian lens I got. Actually, I'm not sure it's 100% russian. It's a ZK 50/2 lens from 1948 (see pic), that, from what I read, most likely has Zeiss glass, was made by Zeiss engineers at Zonnar-Krasnogorsk (ZK) plant right after the WWII. It's the lens that later evolved as a Jupiter -8. WHile it looks a lot like a J-8, it's not quite the same. FIlter size doesn't match as well as some other things. It has "ears " on it's appreture ring, just like Sonnars do. RF coupling seems to be just fine with M3 via adaptor or IIIf.
Well, here are some pics - both taken at mid appretures - 5.6 or so.

Thoughts?

Hey Raid,

My J-3 is ugly, with scratches and cleanning marks. Used to be very stiff too. I got it lubed and adjusted all by myself and now it works great. And its very sharp too, even with les than perfect glass.
I looked at your link to 50mm lens test. You have a beautiful little girl - poor thing had to pose for all those lens tests. 😉
Anyway, after looking at your results, my personal preferences are more confirmed - Sonnar design is great. J-3 performs very nice and for my personal taste it was better than famed Crons. Go figure.:bang: And I thought I "have to have a Cron. Maybe not. I do want to try an M-Hexanon, but I'm not sure if it will work on my M3? Other than that - I'm pretty happy with my selection of 50mm lenses. 3 of them being russian (read - cheap) and well performing.

Good lenses.

Lets see the other one, pls - never seen ZK 85mm. Do you have any more info on them? Website reference? Anything? I could find very little.
Thanks

There are many newb's that think the front glass is a REAL important for sharpness. Not really, It is for light gathering mostly and flair control. It is the REAR element that has the focus point. It is a part of the focus prossess, but not the whole story.

Point: I knew a Newspaper photographer who ALWAYS took his 180/2.8 AF Nikkor with him to the Golf Matches. the front element had a huge scrach across the middle of the surface. NOT ONCE did it ever effect sharpness OR Flair!!

I tried to make soft focus filter by placing silver paint dots on the filter surface. it to over 40 dots before I could see a very slight differance with a 10x loop.

The FSU lens's were Ziess designs. so, they had a good petagree to start. As far as the Casings and focusing materails, they were OK, but could have been better.

Enjoy the lens's. FSU lens's can be very good lens's to have, at a very good price too.
