Im a fan of the I-50 rigid also. A black one with a polarizer on it doesnt look so bad

I, too, am impressed with this lens, altough it looks like a pig's snout. The optics are quite acceptable, but the designer was under the influence of something when he put it together. Nice photos!

there was no designer involved, Richard.
In the FSU countries and "allies", in those red times, everything needed to be functional and cheap. And made very very fast, to fulfill all kind of crazy "5-year plan" stuff.

Since it is the first FSU lens I ever owned, I stilll think it looks ok. I never noticed that it looked funny till I was told it did. The front of the lens is a strange place to put the aperature ring though.
Shoot it at minimum depth of field and it is sharp, with creamy out of focus highlights, some say this is what makes a great lens! Mine has a slight tendency to flare, but it isn't a problem if I watch out for backlighting.
If it were just a stop or so faster.
Nice darkroom work, beautiful pictures.

Slow learner,but keen!
I also have a rigid I50,which came with a Mir,too soon to say too much, but the first impressions of results were fine.
I agree,lovely pictures!

Daniel - very nice work, well done. I like the I-50 regardless of its ugliness it's a good lens. I think they look OK in polished aluminium finish. Also like the silvery look of your negs and the sharpness.

I think that I50 is a very good lens, it's very sharp as you can show on your pictures. I never used a rigid I50 but I was very surprised about I61LD, that is also a very sharp lens. I read that one of the best 50mm was J-3 and I would like to know if someone used and compared this lens with the other.
Here there's an example of I61LD: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=3826951
