My Minolta Dimage III and Vuescan scan slides just fine, but negative or positive film scans are blank (white). The scan process completes OK, but the image is blank. Appreciate any ideas on what could cause this? It used to work just fine. Thanks.

Do you have "Digital ICE" turned on? If you're scanning black and white negs, then Digital ICE must be completely turned off, or you'll get the results you got.

Digital ICE works fine for color film, slides or negs, so if you're scanning color negs I'm not sure what to tell you, but the results you're describing sound like BW film scanned with Digital ICE.

Thanks, Chris. I didn't think the Vuescan/Dimage III combo offered ICE or any dust removal. I don't see it in my filter or preferences tabs.

If you're getting blank scans of negs and slides are fine, something is screwed up in the Vuescan settings. Try resetting VueScan's defaults.

I had this once, it was inexplicable. I tried re-booting resetting prefs and ended up using the Minolta software until there was an update.
You could go to Hamricks site and update and re-install the software.

Hi Godfrey. I tried setting every Vuescan panel to its defaults. No luck. I'm mystified.

The best way to restore VueScan's defaults is to use the "Default Options" command in the File menu. This will overwrite all settings with the original, factory settings.

It doesn't make any sense that the scanner would capture slides but not negatives. It is likely trying to capture something but the settings are so far off that the results look blank.

Yes, I tried that. But I just downloaded the trial of v9 and it works fine. I was on 8.something. I'll upgrade. Thank you both for responding so quickly.

Ah, good to hear you've gotten that taken care of. Yes, VueScan is updated regularly. It's a good idea to keep up to date as Ed Hamrick is very proactive about fixing problems and regressions along the way ... this is why I always recommend the pro version with unlimited updates.
