I just won an auction for a mint black condition Nikon FE2. Now I just need to sell my chrome FE2 with a scratched up rear door. I have always wanted a black FE2. I'm in a good mood can't you tell. Happy Sunday to you all.

Congratulations! - the black ones are so much better! - better image quality, better handling, more 'professional' looking, and less visible for sneaky street shooting!. They also look more like the modern cameras, but no rear screen of course!;)
Dave.

I doubt you'll get $100 for an FE2 and honestly you paid WAY more than the one you just bought is worth. $50 is more realistic. The only old Nikons that are really worth much are the pro level ones like the F2 and F3 and for $200 you could have gotten an F3 which is a much nicer camera.

That is subjective. I payed what I wanted to acquire what I wanted. I don't think I have ever seen a mint black FE2 for $50. I checked previously ended auctions.

I'm happy you're happy...winning auctions is fun...

All things being equal, and there being a choice, I would take a black body camera over chrome... and yes it is solely based on looks...

I like my chrome & black cameras but black looks great. As long as your satisified thats all that really counts. From what I can see you paid less than what you would pay in the used camera store market, but I'm no Nikon expert by any means. I've only shot Canon & Pentax slr's.

KEH has BGN condition black FE2s for around $130, and EX condition ones in the $220 ballpark. Given that on the one hand KEH is usually very cautious in their ratings, and on the other hand with eBay you never know what you'll get in the end, I'd say your camera is straddling the upper end of what I'd pay for that camera.

I agree with you on KEH. Never bought a camera form them, but I've bought lenses and what they classify as bargains I considered nearer to new when I recieved them. I've been pleased with KEH.

Scorpious, don't let the killjoys and party poopers ruin your day. It is a fair price because you think is. I'm happy that you found what you were looking for. Enjoy your new pride and joy and use it in good health!

I have learned my lesson Warren. Never say how much you paid. lol! I just got the camera I wanted and will enjoy for some years to come. Even if I overpaid by $60. I have gotten good deals on other things over the years. Trust me, I'm ahead.
I'm just looking forward to getting out and taking some pictures with it.

I don't know if you overpaid or not, it all depends on what the camera you get looks like. It's the kind of unavoidable eBay gamble. :) Sometimes it's worth considering going to a dealer, especially when you're in the same country as them and know the rating system they use.

But as long as you're happy with your camera once you get it, all is fine.

I once bought a Jupiter 8 lens for my Leica. It was my starter lens. It was listed as ugly. They did not lie. It is ugly cosmetically. Not a scratch on the glass though. KEH is great. I just saw this one and decided to pull the trigger. It's only money. I can make more.
Now I just have explain to the wife why I needed another film camera. ha ha!

I buy a lot of FMs, FE's, FM2's FE2's etc, A LOT of them. The FM's and FE's regularly go for under a hundred bucks but not the ones with the "2"

You got that right and then there is the condition too. If you have lots of luck and a good deal of patience you may find a $50 mintish black FE2 ot not.

Whether or not you paid too much is a decision only you can make, and that must await the arrival of the lens.

I like buying from KEH because they have one set of condition ratings. I don't buy from eBay anymore because ratings are up to the seller. One person's "excellent" is another person's "poor". Too risky for my tastes.
