Amazon Germany had a unique deal on an open box SD1 Merrill and the 17-50 for 990 euros (US$1300). I couldn't resist wanting to try this out. So I ordered the Sigma 8-16 at the same time.

Presumably, I can return this rig within 30 days. (Amazin' Amazon is the only retailer in Europe that I know of that will allow a 30-day return period that covers opened and used merchandise. Please correct me if I'm wrong!).

The SD1 Merrill doesn't really fit into my plans at all, but I would love to have a super wide angle of view on the Foveon sensor.

IF, and it's a very big if, I were to build a Sigma SA system oriented towards landscape, what would be the lenses to have? It looks to me like the lenses on the long end are all quite bulky and heavy.

I actually tried to cancel the order within two hours of placing it, but Amazon would have none of it.

Although I'm really jonesing for a super wide on the Foveon sensor, I just don't think that the SD1M + 8-16 is going to do it for me. No live view, expensive filter solution for the 8-16...

…Then there is the rumor just today of a redsigned dp1Q that will address the corner softness issues of the Merrill model.

Perhaps the safest thing is simply to refuse delivery and have it sent back to Amazon pronto.

great price!

i´m starting to make plans for making my dpmerrill into a interchangeable lens camera...mainly for using wide angles

Don't u still have an Amazon return policy for a open box item? If on the otherhand, this is an all sale are final situation because it is open box, I don't think u have the option of refusing delivery. If there is a still a return policy, why no at least try it during that time period?

In terms of other lenses, I would look at at least one fast "art" series lens like 30f1.4, 35f1.4 or the recently announced 50f1.4, plus a medium tele, maybe a 70 macro for instance.

Btw the sigma filters are actually pretty good for the price.. Anyway sounds to early to welcome u to the sd club since u still on the fence even after ordering it. Anyway hope u like it.

The 8-16 requires a cumbersome unusual and expensive solution

Amazon have a great return policy.
I bought a GRD 4 from them .
I returned it after four months because I wasn`t happy with it and they refunded the money.
With that I bought a GR V from them ,which promptly packed up and they replaced that with a new GR V.

Unfortunately that too died three days after the return by date but they still refunded the money for a third time.

I can`t speak highly enough of them.
