Please pardon the noob question. I have only ever owned one Leitz lens: the one about which I'm inquiring.
The lens is a v3 50 cron from 1971, which I very recently purchased from another RFF member. The focus is a little stiff in the middle of the focusing range, but more so at both ends. This is where it gets a little complicated (or weird).
If I move the focus ring back and forth a few times to get it warmed up, it gets looser in the middle of the range, but stiffer at the ends. In fact, it gets so stiff that it squeaks as it approaches infinity! The squeaking is mitigated by turning the camera top plate side down and continuing to rotate the focus ring.
What's going on here?

The lens need to be lubricated. The right way is to remove the old grease and relube.
