Self-portraits of Bunny Yeager ...

You guys will love this one. 🙂

I first became acquainted with the name Bunny Yeager when I was in my teens and first getting into serious photography. Her book How I Photograph Myself was advertised heavily in the photo mags I used to read in the school libe.

I then found out that my brother, who was also into photography and was a teenage Playboy aficionado, was very familiar with her work.

She "graduated" from posing for pin-up work to behind the camera and became a well-respected glamour/portrait photographer and author.

Although I never aspired to work in front of the camera (I have a "face for radio") I always considered her to be a role model.

As an aside, I always thought her name was a pseudonym, a word play on "rabbit hunter" until someone on the boards (here??) told me he had her as a customer and that was indeed her real-life name. Oh well ...

I first came across her work while I was searching out images of Bettie Page and noticed that she took a lot of very good photos of Bettie.

Those glamour shots from that era are really something IMO.

Not only is Bunny Yeager a great photographer, but she is one of the nicest people you could hope to meet.

I corresponded with her some years ago, and she took the time to answer all my questions personally.

She had a studio on Biscayne Blvd. just south of 79th Street. I used to pass by it when I lived in Miami in the late '60s. The girl I was dating at the time, who has now been my wife for nearly 48 years, lived near there in the Belle Meade section.

I have a Burke & James (mine is only a 5x7) and couple of Rolleiflex cameras like those shown in the pictures, maybe I need to quit shooting old buildings and expand my horizons

Sorry to disappoint you Keith, but this is a Fetish photo of Bettie and one of Irving and Paula Klaw's models....taken ca. 1953 in NYC.

I know Bunny Yeager personally and she NEVER had anything to do with the fetish scene, all of Bettie Page's fetish orientated material was shot in NYC by the Klaws, or various other private camera club members.

Bunny Yeager is one of my PinUp idols and WHY I even got into the business of taking Retro PinUps in the first place. 🙂

Bunny once told me about one of her best models and a dear friend who was very close to her........

The "Marilyn Monroe Of Miami" ~ Maria Stinger (1931–1967 R.I.P.)

Cashing in on her resemblance to MM, she became one of the most popular cheesecake/glamour models in Miami in the mid 1950's, she was one of Bunny Yeager's favorite models and she shot thousands of photos of her.

She never achieved the great fame she desired and the Maria Stinger story has a very sad ending. 🙁

After two failed marriages, severely depressed and unhappy with her life she committed suicide in 1967, this is something that Bunny personally has never forgotten.....she was crying over the phone after we talked about her. (R.I.P. Maria)
