After my shutter froze some months ago I put the RD-1 away as we were moving. The other day I found it again and lo and behold the shutter now works BUT the LCD has ceased to function. I wonder if it's worth sending to Steve's Camera in the States for an overhaul as I'm sure the shutter will go again (which bits will/won't be working by the time it gets there?) or selling it as is and putting that money and what I would probably spend on the repair towards the new RD-1xG.
Oh! Decisions, decisions.

Send it to Steve's. Nobody will want to buy a camera with issues, and the R-D1x wouldn't really be an upgrade. You'd lose the swiveling screen!

Try it with a different battery first (fully charged, Epson brand).

I hear you , I hear you. Done the fresh Epson battery thing already - thanks.
Took it out yesterday and just to tease me the shutter stopped working after a half dozen shots and the screen sill doesn't work!. I think it may be due a visit to Steve's once I find out if Customs over here in the UK will charge on the repair by itself or the full value of the camera coming back into the country.
Phil - how much is it worth yo ya?

I am just now filing a complaint with Dutch customs because they caught the camera on its return from Steve. The camera was sent back without notice of being a repair. Steve is now sending me a statement that the camera was a repair instead of an import purchase, to aid me in retrieving the import duties. Going out of the EU and back for a repair shouldn't be charged like an import, I guess. Will keep you posted.
