Greetings,

Last night I dug out my box of film developing stuff so that I can go back to developing my own film again. Among the hardware I also have an unopened bottle of Agfa Rodinal from about 1994. Storage was in the dark (the bottle was in the original box) in a cool basement. Would this stuff still be safe to use?

Thanks,
Greg

I'm 99.9% sure it'll work but you can test it yourself.
Make some 1+50 or so and with th elights on put a leader of 35mm film
It should become black in a minute or 3

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but your Rodinal is practically unusable. You're going to need to open the bottle, recap it, and let it mature for at least another twelve years before you can expect to get optimal results.

My partly used bottle is from '76 to '79, It was stored half full in roof space under tiles, really hot in summer... while I was too busy to take pics.

Colour like strong indian (tea)

Still ok today.

My mistake was discarding a bottle of Azol from '65, in '76 when I bought the Rodinal. Azol was a British clone of Rodinal, glass bottle with rubber stopper under plastic screw cap, just like the real thing.

Not such a bad mistake as selling my early black Nikon F (mint apart from brassing) at same time...

Your Rodinal is ok.
