Has anyone in the UK bought an RD1 from Japan

If so what happens when the parcel arrives with regards to VAT

Do you pay VAT on the full cost or are there any more taxes etc.

Thanks in advance for any info

AFAIK you pay import duty + tax.

Do you know what % "import duty" is - I thought that there were no import duties these days on consumer electrical goods - only VAT at 17.5%

Has anyone out there actually imported stuff into the UK from Japan?

On digital _still_ cameras the duty is 0%. So the RD1 only gets hit for 17.5% plus whatever fee the shipping company charges for paying and collecting the fee from you.

Thanks Kully, that what I thought

Mint, (new), RD1 seems to cost about £1,000 with taxes delivered to the UK

Cheers

Digital -Rev advertise on Ebay that they will refund any VAT or Import charges. They do charge £70.00 carriage I don't know how this compares. The only thing I imported from Japan was a Sony PSP for my Son before they were available here and I was charged VAT and a handling charge made by the carriers.

Ah well spotted! My bad. Shows how much I know about digital 😛 And as Steve Litt pointed out, DigitalRev will refund the VAT.

Be careful about under-declaring on the customs form, if the package gets lost the carrier will wonder why you're claiming for more than was written.
