I left shooting film for about a year and half but during downtime
from another hobby I have come back. I had forgotten the pleasure of film over shooting my Apple phone and digital camera occasionally. Now I am searching better places and persons to shoot film but it is still a pain as Walgreens and CVS have stopped developing film. Well hopefully I am back shooting my Barnack cameras and my Leica M's.
:D

If you’re shooting in black and white get some Kodak HC-110 and Ilford Rapid Fixer. I find developing my own film as pleasurable as shooting it. It really is like magic when you take your developed film out from the tank and look through to see the shots you took.

If not, check out The Darkroom. They are a fantastic company and do great work. They’ll handle your film better than cvs and walgreen. Little more pricey though.

Yep, it is changing quick. Mail in service or DIY.
C-41 at home is next to no-brainier comparing to BW and it works great with digital camera for scanning.
It just different approach now. 36 exposures film takes one month to expose, developing is half-hour and scanning is another day or two.
I have to send M-E for service and due to this I do C-41 more often now. It is different.
But inkjet prints are nice and special.

Oh how I wish we had a mail-in processing service here in Victoria, Australia.
I've been searching for one for a long time (since Kodak, etc. closed down in Aust.), and now have to travel around 40km. each way to have my C41 processed, plus wait around 2 hours whilst it's done. (When you're not as young as you used to be this can be a bit of a problem:eek:)
Still, at least it can still be done:)

iphoenix ...

mail your film to any of these labs ...

analogue academy ( geelong )

vanbar
prism
michaels

( all in melbourne )

these are just the ones that i have used recently, there are a few other businesses in vic that will most likely process film via mail.

and tennis-joe enjoy !

Try this one. Run by my friends of mine - allround top people, very dedicated to film and photography.

They have Dropboxes all throughout Melbourne city and take mail ins.

Otherwise there's Atkins Pro Lab in SA who do a lot of top wedding photographers scanning.

I personally send my film to Carmencita photo lab in Spain who IMO are the best scanners I've found. The Find Lab in the US also looks very good.

Precision Camera in Austin, a sponsor/advertiser here, offers free high-res scans with their developing for RFF members. For about the same price as The Darkroom, they offer much higher resolution scans - 4181x6305 compared to 1024x1536. I develop my own B&W, but I've been pretty happy with their C-41 service.

I can't believe I got so many responses from Down Under from the first post. I live in Texas and will be contacting Precision in Austin as to the costs. But I have found a lab near my workplace that processes every Thursday. I usually have to add contrast with Photo Shop to get them to look good. I use to scan the 4x6's but it is better to get a CD instead and then play with the scan.
Just need to travel to see more photo moments and interesting people.
I will get a roll back shot with my M, on Thursday with a 50/2 Leica lens. Shots taken of large tankers on the Houston Ship Channel will be on that roll. One tanker was so long that my 35mm lens could not contain it entirely on one shot.

Precision Camera charges $11.99/roll for C-41 using the order form here. It's a special price for RFF members. Also, I got the offer backwards - it's free developing with scans.

College Station resident here. Where do you do your shooting in the ship channel, if you don't mind sharing? I have gotten a few shots from the drilling rig parked in the channel but would like to shoot down there more...

I was at the Lynchburg Crossing, close to the Battleship of Texas. Stopped to eat at the Monument Inn with a wide view of the Channel. There were many barges with tugboats and about 4 ships that went by. Beautiful sight for sure from the water's edge of what was going on. I also crossed on the ferry but they don't let you get out of your car. The parking lot of the Inn makes a great place to shoot from. As soon as I get the film back I will post some pictures on this blog. I was using my Leica M and Leica IIIf.
