Hello there,
I am searching for a camera with a really short shutter lag. Preferably something under 6 ms. I have seen that the fastest SLR has a shutter lag of 6 ms. That is why I thought to visit this forum. Rangefinders, in general, have a shorter shutter lag.
Is there something old OR new with such fast shutter in the rangefinder world?
Thanks,
Rob

If you want short shutter lag for "short" being less than 10ms, that means a leaf shutter camera (in practical life, a MF SLR with electronic leaf shutter and mirror lock). Whether SLR or rangefinder, focal plane shutters also have right-to-left or top-to-bottom lag - in the order of 5ms R/L for Leica M7, and more like 10-15ms for the older Leicas and other RF cameras. SLRs have exactly the same delay once you use them with mirror-lock-up (MLU) - except that pro SLRs tend to have about twice as fast shutters as their RF contemporaries.

All that will only be relevant if you really need fast reaction (as for wildlife photo traps). Once you release by hand, you need not bother about differences below 25ms, as you are already facing mechanical, physiological and neurological lag in the order of about four times that value - whether the camera accounts for ten or twenty percent of your total lag won't improve your pictures visibly.
