I recently got a set of G2 and looking for idea for a carry bag. I'm looking for a shoulder bag so that I can change the lens easy. The bag will need to have enough components to store my lenses (21, 28, 45, and 90), flash, body, and some films. Any suggestion??? Thanks.

Hm, I have a nearly square camera bag made from some grey fabric. It is divided in half and one of the halfs is divided 1/3-2/3. The big compartment takes a G1 and a G2 back to back with lenses and hoods attached as long as it isn't the 90. The small compartment is big enough for the TLA30 and the medium compartment for the Contax double lens pouch. There is enough space left for five filmcontainers and two spare batteries.

The bag is around 17cm heigh, 22cm wide and 17cm deep.

The picture was in Cuba, when I prepared to leave for an outing to the town.

Welcome Joesph,

I recently purchased a Pelican bag. I like shoulder bags with waist belts (ones that tuck away). I also wanted a bag to hold several lenses. In the model I got (sorry I don't remember the name), I configred it to hold 8 lenses, one on the camera and seven in padded "shelves." The bag opens from the top, to access the camera, and it also opens on the side to access the lenses, neatly stacked in their padded cubby holes. It's a nice setup, but it's not the most compact bag. I have a few others that I use for compactness. I'm never satisfied with bags, so the search is never-ending. :) Good luck on your search.

:)

Thanks Socke and Ray. I wan't expecting to get any response so soon... Didn't know this forum has this much traffic... :D:D:D

I will check out the Pelican bag, any other suggestions???

One word: Safrotto.

Roman, Denis and I have been using this versatile bag for several months now. IMO, it's perfect for your purposes. pics

ray, you carry 8 lenses with you?

are you a body builder? weight lifter?

my recommendation goes for the mclassic bag

they are expensive but i found a used one - you might also.

I use a Crumpler Four Million Dollar Home, which fits 2 rangefinders comfortably, or 1 + 3 lenses, plus film, etc. You might want the size up - the $5MDH. It's a great bag, plus it doesn't really look like a camera bag.

Crumpler $5MDH

I got a great price from the eBay seller "photococan"

I currently use a Crumpler 15 Love (link) for my 35mm SLR gear. It holds a body plus several lenses. I've been looking into the Domke line, but they are pricey. The Safrotto looks like a good alternative, but I can't seem to find a distributor in the US.

I'm currently looking for something that holds a 12" laptop, body, 2 lenses and film without being too big.

Type in "like Domke" in the eBay search engine and go to the "Stores" links at the bottom of the page. There are two F-803 clones there, the first one a Safrotto for which the shipping is now down to $29, the second a U.S. distributor with what looks suspiciously like a Safrotto bag to me.

I will repeat my standard advice on all bag-related questions: Don't get fixated on camera bags per se (they're often overpriced). Find any old shoulder/book/messenger/laptop bag that you find comfortable, then get camera equipment inserts (made by various manufacturers--I like those from Domke, Tenba, & Billingham) to hold your stuff inside the bag. The only trick is to make sure that the bag is big enough to hold the inserts--best to err on the side of too big as you can always fill the empty space around the insert(s) w/other stuff.

Sure I can carry 8 lenses, if I wanted to, but I don't...really. And No I'm not a body-builder or a weight lifter. I got the Pelican to hold all the freakin' lenses I've been accumulating since joining RFF. I wouldn't need 8 lenses when out shooting, who would!? The point is the bag is easily configurable, and could hold the 4 lenses and the camera that Joesph has, as well as, flash, film, etc., etc. (all the stuff he's listed, and I can nver wedge into the copact bags I have). I've never owned a Pelican, just Tamarac, Domke, and a few others, but this is a nice bag. IMHO.

i'm glad you don't feel the need to carry it all at once ray;)

my aluminum case does that for me - a place to store all the gear and to work out of.

Have you thought about the Contax bag? I have one - it holds the body and all lenses. Its smal, elegant, and can be found reasonably. It also smells great.

I've been using Domke bags for about 22 years. They're made of thick canvas. Fairly light. Now a lot of padding. Instead, the bag sort of shapes itself to your equipment. Very much like a pair of old blue jeans. I'll have to check out the Safrottos as my current bag is getting a bit threadbare. I've worn out three Domke bags because you end up just wearing them like an old coat, and the canvas wears out in the places that rub up against you.

Domke F-6B

Domke F-6B

I'd highly recommend the Domke F-6B. I have used one for a couple of years, I've carried a G1 with three lenses, flash, filters, film etc comfortably. Get the shoulder pad, it is one of the most comfortable bags I've ever used. Also it is very rugged and unobtrusive.
Good luck,
Nick

I have a Domke F-6 and an F-5XB for when I travel very light. I like them both, but will be getting a 2-compartment insert (720-226) for the F-6. It comes with a 4-compartment insert, but sometimes I carry less equipment and would prefer the 2-compartment insert.

The bag does look good... I wonder if the Contax name prominent on the front adds risk of theft?
