Can you hear a 800 Euro difference?...

A slight difference, of no practical importance, I'd say, and you lose speed.

Oh.. that is sooo 800 euro worth!!! What an idiot. I actually love the sound of my M8, coming from japanese dslr.

the need for speed
thank you very much for the link (and i do notice the difference)! but 800 euro worth? absolutely not! especially since it does not include the discreet advance.
pity, really. i was thinking about picking up a used M8 and doing the upgrade later when my finances allowed. now it seems that only the M8.2 has the feature i most want... ah well.

The thing my non-photographer friends like most about my m8 is the shutter sound - funny.

Actually, from my conversation with Leica US today, almost everyone (100 + and counting) seems to be going for the trifeca (shutter, glass, rangefinder mask). If one goes for the rangefinder it's $800USD. Adding the shutter is $475 more ($1275 for both). I ordered all three for $1,700; was lucky to find a used M8 at a good price ($3,050) with a cracked LCD screen cover (just the cover, the LCD works fine).
