Enjoy Life.
These cameras are due to roll out any day now. Has anyone seen one in the flesh or used one yet?
That much higher MP Foveon chip should be interesting. If the speed and usability of the last version can be upped just a tick it might be a fascinating camera.

dcwatch impress has a test on the dp2 merril with a few sample images - looks like the IQ is nothing short of astonishing. I am personally tempted by the dp1...

I was kind of anticipating that the IQ was going to be pretty jaw dropping. I'll check out that review, thanks!

Nice to see Foveon is starting to explore the potential of their unique sensor, maybe a full frame RF style camera, eh?

The best camera is one that still works!
Fasinating camera because it's short comings and quirks are totally outshone by its image quality ... brilliant!
It makes me actually want to own one ... but why 'Merrill?'

I read the Steve Huff review first the the ll review.. After reading the review and looking at the photos I almost hit te buy button... The only thing that saved me was they were out of stock.. On the dp2m...

Such an interesting camera, but I have to see it and try it before I would ever buy it. Too many red flags to buy blind.

RF user by conviction
I saw one DP Merrill last week, hanging from the shoulder of a photokina visitor. Can't tell whether 't was the 1 or 2. The IQ is spectacular, as can be seen from the various reviews (also those of the SD1 that has the same sensor) out there.

I'm mostly film, but I find it a very appealing camera. Looks simple, and I liked my DP-1. Image quality looks remarkable, obviously.

Yeh.. I thought about that as well.... But after reading some of the reviews and going back thru the issue areas, for what I intend to use the camera for, I thinking I can live with it... But for now I need to first pick up the xp1 lenses that I am interested in first (14, 23, 28 and kit zoom) before I figure out about allocating any money for a dp2m... So for me dp2m is at least a year away.. Hopefully by then rff members will have posted all their gripes, love and hate about the camera.
Cheers

That site is what made me pull the trigger into the Sigma world.
On the RIGHT pane, navigate to the "Sample Photo Gallery."
From there, you can launch some of the originals from your link and zoom them.
My breath was taken away and my wallet lightened at the same time.

Well-known
I would get the DP1M if there were Aperture support. And I would seriously think about the DP2M, too, although a normal lens with such an underperforming camera body (well, my experience is with the original DP1) and no viewfinder is not for me. It would still make a great camera for tripod use, though.

Your impressions of the camera so far?
Your impressions of the camera so far?
That is quite a way of putting it
So can I ask u your impression so far? And in particular...
I have been curious about af versus mf override versus zone focus with this camera. Also af accuracy... I do not care if it is slow, so long as it half accurate focus..
Thanks

For reference, I have the original DP1 as well as the DP2M and I have posted a few thoughts on focus in this OTHER RFF THREAD.
To add to that, I frankly have been shooting mostly outdoor landscapey shots with strong light and in P mode -the camera just nails these. So, I have not really shot from A mode and opened it up. Nor have I really used the manual focus.
My experience in these limited instances is that AF has been spot on and quick enough so long as you have either a strong vertical and/or strong contrast at your point of focus. Regarding MF, I actually prefer the original thumbwheel focus of the pre-Merrill bodies. That said, the larger, higher res screen on the Merrill is much better for accurate focusing. Regardless, they lack any sort of focus confirmation like the Nexi, etc... They do have focus zoom, but other than that you are on your own. Of course, with a 2.8 lens, we are not dealing with a razor thin DOF.
Back to my type of shooting (outdoors) ... The really big killer is that the screen is utterly useless in strong back light. I think (wish) that Sigma had included an optional EVF akin to the Nex-5n.

Thanks for the update..
I noticed on the sigma site that they had a brightline vf accessory. Does that mean u can hear an af lock confirmation?
Cheers
