Sigma DP3 with 50mm Macro

Certainly a fun camerabag to walk around with, if you buy all three Sigma Merrills the 19mm, 30mm and 50mm or at least the 19mm and the 50mm (at 1.5? crop).

I already have a M8, so I've decided I don't need another strictly low iso camera. :) But for pure low iso image quality, this set of Sigma's seems hard to beat.

Exactly pieter. I don't think I'd buy it (I have a DP2m and M8 for low ISO) either. But someone will be very happy using this. I think its great what they are trying.

I like Sigma's approach to this. Compact cameras at different ranges. With great IQ.
Thinking about picking up my old DP1 that's on CL again. haha.

Wow, a strange release I didn't see coming:

Ditto!

Sigma made it known after the release of the Merrill's that they were going to stretch out -but this was unexpected. Kudos to them!

BTW, Also quite unexpected ... I recently received a very nice holiday presentation package from them. It was very well done. I am really excited for them and I am now considering jumping from Nikon to Sigma for my SLR needs.

What bugs me is this: Why don't they come up with full-frame foveon sensor, or at least bigger than APS? They broke away from the common sensor technologies in so many ways, why not the size?

I personally wouldn't mind buying a full-frame digital camera the size of the DP series with fixed lens and up to 200 ISO for the optimum image quality.

Sigma sure has a strange approach to this camera series. If it is the sensor that is true magic then just give the consumer a zoom lens.

I don't have any technical, specific response ... except that the results at 24x36 from what they already have is breathtaking. It might be that they don't have to -yet?

I just noticed this post here.. I posted on the advance point and shoot other forum about this as well.. Jsrock, but u beat to it by a country mile.

I wished it had been a 50f1.4 instead.. Or something wider than the 19f2.8. But I am glad they are continuing to bring new models to market. As I said in the other thread, sigma get LR, aperture or c1 on board w/ your 3xf file format. If LR and c1 can go thru the work of supporting xtran sensor, this should not be easier I would hope.

If you put an inferior zoom into the DP series, you kill the series... the primes are that good.

I'm pretty sure Sigma could produce a zoom to match or exceed the sensor. This is Sigma after all. This begs the question: if just primes why so slow? F2 (at a minimum) would make a difference and make it more marketable.

Have you used the Merrill series? I've never owned a lens as "sharp" as the one in the DP2m... Leica lenses included. I truly think they went for the best lens they could on these units and slower lenses are supposedly easier to make than fast lenses.
