I came across this video demo of how to use dp and sd Merrill raw image w/ spp for b&w processing. The demo covered monochrome tab, color tab using monochrom option (what was there before version 5.5) and an ir image from sd1...

Thanks, agains, Gary for another excellent share. Really racking up the karma points there!
I really let myself get taken in by the line that "SPP is just for conversion; do all PP in third party software." As a result, I completely overlooked how good the de-banding in SPP is (foolish embarrassment icon). I went back to some color frames that I showed here earlier with banding in bright blue sky, and SPP took care of it without visible-to-me artifacts--which could not be said for Nik/Google Denoise2. And this video also suggests that SPP is particularly tweaked for essential exposure processing of X3F files as well. I haven't played around with the film grain tool too much, but it makes me wonder if there isn't a noticeable difference with grain tools in other programs?

Sadly... I think our favorite photo software, even if they were to one day support foveon technology will never be as good in fine tuning the 3xf files.

Thanks for the link Gary, +1 on the karma points.
I actually don't mind the sigma software too much. I keep my raw files in folders with 100 images, that way it doesn't take forever to load up all of the images.
I just wish there was a way to compare the initial image to the current iteration of the image.

gonna catch this vid at home
but must add another +1 to SPP. i find that it works very well for exposure and the X3F fill light seems pretty magical to me even if it is just a tone curve adjustment. my wishlists would be crop, fine rotation and more advanced AWB controls.
