is there a difference between the silent mode and just turning off all the sounds one by one?
i now can have easier access to flash mode and macro, one less step of having to turn the silent mode off.
anything else or something i am missing?

I couldnt find any difference between the two options! I just kept the volumes to 0 and silent mode off... easier to use the flash when I need it!

The AF focus light is inactivated. Stealth is more than sound. (....the manual)

But can be turned off seperately as well.

I think silent (or "stealth") is usefull as a way of turning everything off at onece and making sure you can't turn them on by mistake. e.g you're at a concert or museum and want to be sure you don't turn the flash on by mistake. I think it's pretty handy, but tend to use it less as I become more familiar and confident with the camera.
