Hi all
About to pull the plug and get a scanner from B&H. I'm not a wiz on the computer so I am in for a lot of work right?
They include the silverfast SE6, is this what I want?
The v750 includes silverfast Ai 6 (includes MonacoEZcolor).
Which one would you want?
The only diff I can see from the 700 to the 750 is these versions and the ability to wet scan (?is this a big thing?).
So I guess the question is should I get the 750 or the 700?

im pretty glad with the v700 for several years already.
Never needed wet scanning.
Be prepared though, that the silverfast SE is a bit cumbersome. I prefer actually using epson's software. One good reason is, it allows batch scanning.

Suggest you Google this question. Differences, as I understand it:

Straight scans with Epson's own software is all you need.
Vuescan and SF are both a complete waist of time compared to Epson's own software.
So get the V700 unless you plan to wetscan.

For current production V700/v750's the glass anti-reflection optical coating is common.
I suggest to avoid vuescan or silverfast unless you are familiar with them. The Epson software is simple and effective.
Wet scanning ensures film flatness but is a very slow and messy process.

you now get a free upgrade to Silverfast SE 8 for Mac with the V700, as Version 6 was incompatible with Lion. I did buy Vuescan to try to recover under/overexposed negatives and to gain raw files, as I find the Epson software is slightly limited. Vuescan has quite a complicated interface, but I am always impressed by how much detail it manages to extract from the scanner - so quite worth it to my mind.
Note that the V700 delivers good scans but from the comparisons I've seen it is still quite behind dedicated film scanners (I was particularly disappointed by the dynamic range, but that might be due to not having spent long enough experimenting).

For the difference in price between the 700 and 750, you could upgrade the Silverfast SE to Ai if you later decided it was worth it. The v700 is the smarter buy in my opinion.
