Anyone know of software that takes a photo and splits it up so that you print parts of the photo on different pieces of paper and assemble like a puzzle for really big prints?

Do Lightroom or Photoshop do this out of the box?

An episode of "House of Cards" got me interested in this.

Illustrator has a "tile" feature. So does InDesign. Just prepare your photo file, import into one of those programs as a simple layout, specify any damn size you like (along with amount of overlap you'd like each tile to have) and rock out. You're going to need some big printer paper, though, unless you want to go crazy with lots of pieces.

Anything that runs on the Mac locally that isn't Illustrator or InDesign? Just can't justify either of those programs for just this one use case.

So what am I missing here.

If your current photo editor supports two things I think u are in business.
- crop
- up-Rez to final print size for a given dpi

Then all u need to do is duplicate the original as many times as u want to have number of unique pieces. Print the original to create a crop map and go to town.
