I was just thinking the other day trying to figure out how to stop obsessively buying and selling the equipment. The normal reaction would be to stop buying but we all know it doesn't work, you eventually give in and go on a buying spree.
Than it dawned on me, the solution is to stop selling, yes that is right stop selling!!!
I figured eventually I will have all the cameras I want/need and my bank funds will be depleted. Also, for example, will not need to replace that M3 I sold last week because I am getting back into film again etc, etc.
I want to hear from RFF members who cured GAS buy not selling......

Shaken, so blurred
I don't sell - and it hasn't cured me. Sorry. My at least temporary solution is to think of everything except consumables as a percentage of the M9 I'm "saving" for (with no real commitment to purchase, mind). "If I buy that it will put an M9 x much further away."

Quit your job. Then you might really want to consider how to spend that dollar.

Not very good...
Buy what you want and be done with it. I now have the kit I want and really have no real need for anything else major until the Canon 7D replacement comes along and only then if it has real benefits of lower noise at the higher ISO settings.

Do you have the black Leica MP with the 24mm summilux? If not....ooooooh my!....you haven't even began to experience REAL photography.

I find not being rich fixes the GAS issue quite nicely. You still want it, but just can't buy it. Of course you could always steal it, but that leads to other, more critical, problems.

I have found that my GAS has been helped by selling everything, yes, everything, and just getting a couple of cameras to replace them. One 35mm, and one medium format. I ended up breaking that a little bit, as my 35mm is an MP, and I wanted something cheaper I could take places where I would not risk the MP, so I got an SLR for a couple hundred pounds.
I feel much happier now than when I had about 10 cameras, I've not gassed for gear in a while, and it feels good.

I actually did quit my job and started my own business. So I went from having fixed income to earning much more money and it made the things worse.

just stop browsing forums and auction sites. go and take pictures and read books, engage with other people etc. it can be easy when you aren't looking. Window shopping with no intention to buy is rubbish, you always buy when you look!

It's funny to realize that buying an old camera killed my GAS. Ever since I bought my M8 last winter I stopped caring really about newer cameras. Thought about the Xpro-1, but now when needing higher iso I just use a faster lens. The Leica M8 is still relevant I think and a lot more fun to shoot with than the whole new line of compacts released this year.
